Calla Lily Care

Tips On Calla Lily Care

Calla lily care is really relatively easy.  However, if you are not use to having calla lilies in your home or garden you may be concerned about how to care for them appropriately.  This article is going to explain just that. It is going to give you the confidence you need to care for your new flower and help it grow and thrive.  You may be amazed at just how easy it really is.

You are going to grow the calla lily from a bulb.  Many people do not realize that they can dig these bulbs up and move them from place to place.  This makes them a wonderful addition to your garden because they are very flexible.  Keep in mind that the calla lily will produce more bulbs as it continues to grow.  This gives the flower the opportunity to grow and spread throughout your garden.  If you do not want this to happen you will need to dig the bulbs up and remove them completely or move them to another area.  You do have the option of growing them from a seed but that is going to take a lot more work than simply planting the bulb.  You do not need to worry about any certain soil either.  As long as the temperature and the humidity are favorable, they will grow just about anywhere.

You are going to need to remember that you need to keep the soil moist at all times.  You will want to be sure that you are watering them on a regular basis.  However, you do not want to water them to the point that the water is laying on the surface of the soil.  This is an indication that there is too much water.  This may cause the bulb to rot and your calla lily will not grow.  You can simply take the time to touch the soil and see if it is moist.  As long as it is not completely dry, you will not need to water the plant.

Calla lily care is especially important if you live in warmer climates where it is possible for the plant to grow all year. You are going to need to take the time to give the plant some fertilizer every few weeks.  You can do this by simply working some fertilizer into the soil or you can take the extra step and mix it into the plants water.  Be sure to check your plant regularly to make sure that you are not giving it too much food.  You are going to be able to tell because the calla lily is going to have burnt leaves.  You are going to nee to give it more nutrition if it is not in a location that is getting a lot of sun.  Therefore, if you move the plant to a sunny location, you will not need to give it so much food.

Calla lilies do not have to be planted outside. You can grow them in pots and place them inside of your home if you are interested in doing so.  However, calla lily care is going to be different if you are going to be planting them indoors.  You are going to want to take the time to learn about these differences and how you can transplant it from indoors to outdoors if you are interested in moving it around in the winter months.  This plant has the ability to grow year round if you give it the love and attention that it needs.  You can always research more about this flower if you are interested in transplanting it.
