It is a very soft fruit, as compared to pears or apples for instance, and is of course a tropical fruit.

The flesh of the papaya ranges from an orange-yellow to orange-pinkish color, but as fat as the taste is concerned the color isn't particularly significant.

Yellow fruits generally are considered to be good for the cardiovascular system, and while claims of preventing cancer must usually be taken with a pinch of salt, yellow fruits like papaya are considered to provide a certain degree of protection against certain cancers.
